India, the world’s third-largest oil importer and consumer, is poised to become the leading force behind global oil demand in the second half of this decade, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). The IEA’s Oil 2024 report projects a significant rise in India’s oil consumption by 1.3 mn barrels per day (bpd) from 2023 to 2030.
The 7th edition was inaugurated today in the presence of esteemed dignitaries which included (L to R):

Drawing in a sizable number of attendees from various backgrounds like decision-makers, industry leaders, suppliers and solution providers from both domestic and international markets the summit successfully connects the relevant connections within the industry. The summit will discuss about India’s ambitious capacity addition plan of about 35-40 MT by 2030. As road transport fuels will dominate the demand surge with diesel and gasoline leading the growth, discussion over the sustainable fuel makes it more than relevant in this context.
Shedding light on the initiatives and activities at Indian Oil, Shri Alok Sharma, Director R&D, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., expressed: "We are working on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and biofuels in a big way. We are following up with the Green Hydrogen Mission as we look forward to integrate Green hydrogen plants with refineries. Another important area is that of CCUS where we are focused to create a difference. We are in developing processes to bring down the the costs for carbon capture. I have seen the program and overall coverage has been given to the avenues such as refining, petrochemicals, and alternative energy, which aim to achieve the Net-Zero goals of the country. I compliment Team Messe Frankfurt India for hosting this insightful Summit."
As the Indian government also plans facilities investments in exploration of major offshore oil deposited located previously blocked zones.
Against this encouraging backdrop, the 7th edition of India Refining Summit will have notable speakers from the concerned ministry/government bodies, experts from the think tank organisations and leaders from India’s refining companies.
Sharing his thoughts, Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, expressed: “It is encouraging to note that the refining industry in India is looking forward to harness sustainability with regard to operations and its products. India Refining Summit is the right platform to engage with facilitators and drivers of the refining industry and aims to carve a way that benefits the country, industry and ultimately consumers. I feel this summit will lead to open up new pathways through discussions on how government and refineries can collaboratively achieve the targets.”
