20 Dec 2023

The journey of LED in the lighting industry has been epic and has illuminated the growth pathway for the lighting industry in India. LED products integrated with technologically advanced solutions, is further set to widen its hold in the Indian lighting market. Building upon this impetus, LED Expo New Delhi resulted in an impressive record of 54 new entrants out of 195 exhibitors participating from India and six countries, which included China, Italy, Finland, Hong Kong, Switzerland and UAE.

LED Expo New Delhi 2023 once again proved its momentum of being the only marketplace bringing together the LED product brands and solution providers from India and abroad on a single show floor with a plethora of MSMEs offering lighting and LED solutions as well as products that serve various lighting requirements in the areas of architecture, commercial, landscape and many more.

With participation from leading companies like Adsun Lighting, Bhagwati Lighting Industries, Bright Power Semicon, C B Electric, Calcom Vision, Caterlux, Epsori, IMEE LED, Inventronics, Kevin Electrochem, Mantra Lite, Network INC, Panitek Smart Energy, Zylos and many more, the show floor was sparking with several attention-grabbing products which were energy efficient and high on design and aesthetics at the same time.

Impressed by the show floor and talking about how LED has taken over 80% of the conventional lighting market while phasing out the general service lighting bulbs (GLS), Chief Guest Shri Milind Deore, Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India, said: “In the last 10 years, India’s growth in lighting, particularly in LED segment has been significant. This is what I also felt after visiting LED Expo New Delhi. A lot of developing countries have also participated here which will create bilateral opportunities for the MSMEs. I believe that the show will also benefit in expanding the clusters of this product category. I have observed that there are a lot of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) who have participated which is indeed great.” He also highlighted how ‘UJALA’ – a scheme by the Indian government for promoting the use of LED lamps significantly brought down the cost of LED lamps from ₹500 to ₹50.

After exploring the dynamic show floor, the Guest of Honour Ar Abhay Purohit, President, of the Council of Architecture, shared his views by saying: “This is a very good experience because the Indian and International LED manufacturers and suppliers have brought their designs here and the transformation happening through LED lighting is showcased here. Some Indian manufacturers participating here are showing how the LED industry has advanced in the last five years, how it has grown exponentially and become more mature. The competence of the Indian and international companies is creating a great learning experience for both of them and it is good for the visitors.”

The event saw the joint participation of Caterlux and Casambi emphasising on smart lighting solutions and IoT integration to boost the growth of the intelligent lighting systems in the future. Commenting on Indian LED market, Mr Kristian Jenkins, Business Development Head, Asia Pacific – CASAMBI said: “Well it’s an absolutely growing industry here and it is fascinating to see the level of adoption of LED in India. I am from Europe and we are still going through that transition, but here in India it is far more advanced than what we see now. The next step is to see smart lighting and utilising LEDs more effectively.”

Talking about the growth of the show and the LED industry, Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director & Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, said: “LED Expo is obviously a very established show now in the Indian market. We have got a good Indian and international base at this edition with a total of 195 exhibitors. LED market in India is very big at the moment and it is estimated to grow from USD 3.4 billion in 2022 to USD 11.9 billion by 2028 at a CAGR of 23%. The show has grown, but also the LED consumption in India has been growing. LED in homes and buildings is one thing, but if you look at LED in airports, street lighting, railways stations and such large-scale projects, the Indian government has led it in a big way resulting in the growth of LED market and its production.”

Satisfied by the platform and their participation in the show, Ms Latika Jindal, Director, Mantra Lite, shared: “At LED Expo you can showcase your company’s strengths which is basically your product - directly to the customers. They come in direct contact with the exhibitor which is great. The biggest benefit of participating in this show is that all the companies who purchase products and solutions, do visit this event and we connect with them.

Emphasizing on India’s strength in the world especially in LED segment, Mr R Baraneetharan, Former Lighting Head at Bajaj Electricals and India Bulls and currently Chief Architect, Vivid Consultants, said: “Recently, I visited some international lighting trade fairs, and I observed that India is at the top. It is becoming a big LED manufacturing hub. LED Expo New Delhi is a very good show and especially, this year it has done well in terms of layout. Also, the number of participants and visitors is great. The visitors who come here are the decision-makers from big companies and leading electronic brands who want to see new trends in LED. This show is the best for increasing awareness of using LED for energy efficiency and continues the spirit of the Made in India mission.”

The panel discussions led by the Council of Architecture, presentations by Interior Designer Lipika Sud and LACMA, and a workshop by Women in Lighting, comprehensively packed the current and future trends and opportunities in the LED and lighting industry. LED expo New Delhi indeed sparked new ideas and innovations which is benefit the Indian LED and lighting segment.
